Why I Started Jet Life: It's Not About What Happens To You

I want to tell you the real version of why I started Jet Life. Not the polished one.

I Wanted Ownership

I spent years building a career in cybersecurity. Most recently I worked in the information security department at Major League Baseball. I learned how to protect things that matter, how to build process where there was chaos, and how to think about risk before it becomes a problem.

At some point I realized I wanted to take everything I had learned and apply it to something that was actually mine. Not a project for someone else. My own business, built with my own hands, that I was fully responsible for. I wanted ownership in every sense of the word.

Why The Water

I could have picked anything. I picked this because I genuinely love it.

I love the thrill. I love the adventure. I love the community that comes with water sports, the people you meet, the way strangers become friends by the end of an afternoon on the river. There is something about handing someone the keys to their first ride and watching them come back to the dock with a smile they cannot wipe off their face. That feeling is the product. The jet skis are just how I get there.

The Hardest Year Of My Life

I am not going to pretend this was easy.

This has been the most challenging year of my life. I have been on the job market since October and I have not landed the role yet. The season before, I had sold my jet skis. Then customers kept reaching out, wanting to ride, and I had a decision to make.

So I made it. I spent my last dollar on a single jet ski. I worked that one ski until it earned enough to buy the next one. And then I went all the way in. One hundred percent committed to this business.

I built the entire thing myself. The website. The software that runs the operation. The booking process. The safety standards. The systems that protect my customers and protect me. All of it, from scratch, with the skills I had spent years developing.

I made mistakes along the way. I learned from every one of them, and I grew from every one of them.
